Search tips

Select Words Carefully

Use specific words to describe exactly what you are looking for. Choosing the right search term is the key to finding the information you need. More general terms will give a larger number of results, so try to narrow your search.

Capitalization

IFACnet searches are NOT case sensitive. All letters, regardless of how you type them, will be understood as lower case. For example all of the searches below will all return the same results:

  • value added tax
  • Value Added tax
  • Value Added TAX

Including Words

By default, IFACnet searches only return pages that include all of your search terms. There is no need to include the word AND between terms. To restrict a search further just include more terms.

Phrase Searches

To search for an exact phrase, just put single quotation ('...') or double quotation ("...") marks around two or more words. For example:

  • "code of corporate conduct"
  • 'code of corporate conduct'

Excluding Words

To further define your search, you can exclude documents that contain certain words by using any of the following methods:

  • "management accounting" NOT audit
  • "management accounting" -audit
  • "management accounting" !audit

OR Searches

To find pages that include either of two search terms, add an uppercase OR or a | between the terms. For example, here are 2 ways to search for "beyond budgeting" or "better budgeting":

  • "beyond budgeting" OR "better budgeting"
  • "beyond budgeting" | "better budgeting"

Complex Searches

Any of the above methods can be combined to produce powerful search queries. For example:

  • "beyond budgeting" | "better budgeting" -"round table"
  • "beyond budgeting" | "better budgeting" -"round table" -roundtable

Word Order

Keep in mind that the order in which the terms are typed can affect the search results.
